In 1903, the excavations carried out by St. Xanthoudides brought to light a Minoan era building.
Its unique for the time elliptical shape and its use troubled archaeologists for many years.
In 1971, a newer research by Prof. K. Davara revealed new evidence proving that this is a house, the only one of the Minoan period with this shape and dates back to 2200-2000 BC. while remains of older houses were found.
During the excavations, bronze objects were found outside the house, while vases and some figurines were found in the rooms, which are kept in the Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos Museums.
